ARVO SYMPOSIUM
Anti-VEGF Therapy Beyond AMD: Concepts and Controversies

SATURDAY 4 SEPTEMBER

16.30 – 18.00
Venue: Amphitheatre Bordeaux

Coordinators: F. Recchia USA, J. Penn USA

Precis
Converging lines of basic and clinical evidence support the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in retinal disease. Indeed, the development and widespread use of anti-VEGF treatments represents one of the best examples of translational medicine. While anti-VEGF therapy for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been upheld by several large, prospective, randomized clinical trials, there is no evidence of comparative strength to guide its use in other retinal diseases. The goal of this symposium is to present a critical appraisal of the basic and clinical evidence related to the expanding indications for anti-VEGF therapy. It is hoped that the audience will learn more of the biological rationale, clinical outcomes, advantages, and limitations of this exciting new treatment.
