To describe a case of oedema and hemorrhage sectoral of the optic disc and macular detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) as presenting manifestation of sub-retinal vein occlusion.
Retina Department at Dr. Gama Pinto Institute of Ophthalmology, Lisbon Portugal
We describe a case of a 60 year-old man, with complaints of decrease vision in the right eye (RE).
The patient presented with a best corrected visual acuity of 0,05 for RE. Fundoscopy revealed oedema and hemorrhage sectoral of the optic disc and changes suggestive of macular detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the RE. Laboratory analyzes showed negative infectious and inflammatory parameters. The patient was medicated with aflibercept intravitreal injection on the RE and showed a significant improvement of visual acuity in 2 months for 5/10 for far and 8/10 for near. .
This case demonstrates the importance of considering sub-retinal vein occlusion as a cause of oedema and hemorrhage sectoral of the optic disc.
