To review prevention of endophthalmitis, current endophthalmitis management, and advances utilizing new-generation anti-infectives for managing intraocular infection.

Hospital based

Retrospective nonrandomized case series of 12 eyes of 12 patients who had Postoperative Endophthalmitis after uneventful phacoemulsification. Early small gauge vitrectomy was performed for all the cases with Microbiological evaluation and administration of Intravitreal antibiotics for all patients in Operation Theatre under local anaesthesia after taking informed consent.

10 eyes showed remarkable improvement with single intervention. However 2 eyes required repeated intervention with gram negative organisms.

Timely surgical intervention can result in good anatomical and visual outcomes in patients with postoperative endophthalmitis.
