To analyse the clinical profile and outcome of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in complicated and chronic uveitis

Retrospective analysis of 100 eyes of 80patients (48 males and 32 females) with uveitis,who had undergone PPV, was done.Clinical profile, surgical procedures with PPV and post operative outcomes and complications were noted


Mean age of presentation was 28.63 years. Mean duration of disease activity was 25.36 months. 20 patients had bilateral uveitis. 23 patients had history of joint pain. Decreased vision was the most common presenting feature. Mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 1.87 logMAR. Most common anterior segment finding was complicated cataract (65%). AC cells and flare were present in 59 eyes. Retinal detachment was present in 32 eyes. Most common complication was Retinal break (9%) intraoperatively and hypotony(11%) post operatively. Mean postoperative BCVA was 0.92 logMAR(p<0.001)


Present study highlights the effectiveness of PPV in clearing inflammatory debris and restoring vision in patients with complicated uveitis
