Abstract Details



Purpose:

To report a case of noninfectious posterior uveitis treated with posterior sub-tenon’s dexamethasone injection

Setting:

Public Eye Hospital (RSKMM), Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia

Methods:

A 20 years old man with the main complaint of blurred vision in right eye since 3 weeks ago, came to our hospital. No redness and pain, no fever and cough. visual acuity on right eye 2/60 pinhole negative and the left eye 6/6. Examination of the right eye revealed anterior segment within normal limit. Funduscopy of the right eye showed perivascular sheating with small exudates in the periphery retina and macular edema in the right eye. He was treated by Posterior Sub-tenon’s dexamethasone injection twice a month, topical corticosteroid drops with oral corticosteroid. He also consulted to internal medicine department to find any causative factor

Results:

After 2 month treated with posterior sub-tenon’s dexamethasone injection, visual acuity in right eye was 6/12, funduscopy showed there was still perivascular sheating with small exudates in the periphery retina but macular edema was already reduced by OCT examination

Conclusions:

In patient with noninfectious posterior uveitis, posterior sub-tenon’s dexamethasone injection may be an effective treatment option for controlling intraocular inflammation
