This study examines the effects of three consecutive intravitreal ranibizumab injections monthly on ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) in wet type age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Pamukkale University, Ophthalmology Department, Denizli, Turkey
Thirty two eyes of 32 wet AMD patients were included in this prospective study. Three consecutive monthly injections of ranibizumab were performed in all the eyes. The OPA was measured with the Pascal dynamic contour tonometer before and after 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months of intravitreal ranibizumab injections.
Pre-injection mean OPA value was 2.55 ± 0.76 mmHg and post-injections mean OPA value was 2.79 ± 0.88 mmHg at the last visit (p=0.10). Pre-injection intraocular pressure (IOP) was 18.10 ± 2.26 mmHg, and the final IOP was 18.93 ± 2.95 mmHg (p=0.58).Also, the mean OPA and IOP values did not change significantly in the first day, week, and month visits (p>0.05).
Although the mean OPA value was increased after triple intravitreal ranibizumab injections, the difference was not statistically significant, revealing this treatment does not alter gross choroidal haemodynamics.
