: To detect efficacy of TA application on the margin of relaxing retinotomy (RR) before silicon oil injection on post operative PVR changes.
Prospective consecutive case series done in Referal Eye Hospital in Eastern India
This is prospective interventional study. TA assisted 23G vitrectomy done in in 74 complex retinal detachments and divided into two groups, Group1 primary n=43 cases and failed Group 2 n=31.In both the groups were subdivided into Gr1a n=21 and Gr2a n=17 additional TA drops were applied over the margin of RR after fluid air exchange and laser photocoagulation just before silicon oil injection .In subgroup 1b n=22 and 2b n=14 where no TA were used..PVR progressions noted after 6 months of silicon oil removal.
Mean post operative BCVA were 1.21+/-0.39 logMAR(1a) and 1.28+/-0.40 logMAR(1b) in Group 1 and 1.02+/-0.37 logMAR(2a) and 0.91+/-0.26(2b) in group 2.Epimacular membrane (ERM)formation were noted in 19.05%in group a and 54.55% in group b (p<0.05) in Gr 1 and 2(11.76%) in group2a and 9(64.29%) in group 2b (p<0.05).Marginal PVR changes without recurrent retinal detachment were noted 9.52%(1a) vs 27.27% (1b) and 3(17.65%) (2a) and 10(71.43%)(2b) (p<0.05).Recurrent RD 4.76% vs 13.64% in Group 1 and 5.88% vs 28.57% in Group2.
Sub silicon oil additional triamcinolone particle drop over the sites of relaxing retinotomy significantly decreases post operative ERM formation in both primary and failed RD but marginal PVR changes only in failed RD cases.
