Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the early macular function changes using microperimetry after intravitreal injection of bevacizumab for the treatment of macular odema associated with Retinal Vein Occlusion.

Setting:

Vitreo-Retinal Division of the Department of Ophthalmology, King Abdul Aziz University Hospital, King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Methods:

In this interventional case series 96 eyes of 96 patients with macular odema associated with retinal vein occlusion and treated with intravitreal injection of Bevacizumab. Macular microperimetry was obtained at presentation before treatment and at one week post treatment.

Results:

Wholesome improvement in macular function - Sensitivity, fixation and Stability was detected immediately after treatment with intravitral injection of Bevacizumab as measured by Microperimetry.

Conclusions:

Intravitral Injection of Bevacizumab given early after the onset of Retinal Vein Occlusion results in improvement and better Macular function and therby results in significant decrease in Macular odema and corresponding increase in Visual acuity.
