To introduce a novel technique to perform episcleral buckling surgery.
We used a regular surgical microscope, a BIOM and a chandelier light. The chandelier light was inserted into the sclera. This technique was compared with indirect ophthalmoscopy.
Using a regular BIOM and a chandelier light the retina can be easily examined. Small tears are more easily detected with the BIOM than with indirect ophthalmoscopy. With indirect ophthalmoscopy more tears were overseen than with the BIOM.
This new technique is novel and simple and facilitates buckling surgery.
