Intravitreal bevacizumab injection in cases of eales disease with vitreous hemorrhage

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To find out whether intravitreal bevacizumab[Avastin] can cause regression of neovascularisation and thus reducing the recurrence of vitreous hemorrhage with early resorption of hemorrhage

Setting:

tertiary care eye hospital in eastern india

Methods:

12 patients, all male, aged between 20 to 30 years presenting with fresh vitreous hemorrhage received 0.05ml[ 1.25 mg of bevacizumab in the study eye .fundus photo of 6 patients pre and post injection will be presented.

Results:

9 out of 12 patients had a dramatic resolution of vitreous hemorrhage in 3 weeks making further laser therapy possible and early recovery of vision in such young adult males.3 patients had to undergo vitreous surgery.

Conclusions:

intravitreal bevacizumab injection is a very useful method of treatment in patients presenting with vitreos hemorrhage in Eales disease. it helps in early recovery of vision in young age group.
