Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report 2 cases of IOFB floating in the vitreous using magnetic device without pars plana vitrectomy

Setting:

2 cases of IOFB floating in the vitreous using magnetic device to be reported

Methods:

A 4 mm long pars plana sclerotomy tangential to the limbus was created at site of the FB. Magnet was placed and FB removed Wound vitrectomy was done before and after FB removal

Results:

After 3 months patients had a BCVA of 20/20 and 20/25 respectively. In selected cases that the FB is just close to the eye wall and not attached or imbedded in retina, and also if it’s position is anterior enough so that it is accessible with magnet at pars plana

Conclusions:

IOFB removal using magnet can be considered as a safe procedure
