Abstract Details

Purpose:

We presented the surgery in a case of a 55-years old male who presented a macular fold after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgeryin his right eye treated with vitrectomy, laser and gas.

Setting:

Ophthalmology Department of Hospital Son Espases, Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Methods:

We performed a nw 23G vlaved cannula vitrectomy, subretinal fluid injection with 41 G needle and air-fluid exchange to undo the fold, then reapply the retina with perfluorocarbon liquid, aspiration of subretinal fluid and laser in the retnotomies. Gas (C3F8 10%) was left in the eye and face down in the postoperative period.

Results:

His visual acuity improved from 20/200 to 20/60 at two months after surgery, with resolution of the fold and the retina remained flat.

Conclusions:

Maculaar folds are a rare complication after retinal detachment surfery, due to existence of redundacy in the retina associated with the use of intraocular gas. The technique shown in the movie allowed us to flat de retina and to improve the vision
