Abstract Details

Purpose:

To try a logical new approach to help resolve the scisis and neurosensory detatchment in congenital optic disc pit.

Setting:

A multispeciality eye hospital, a referral based retina practice

Methods:

Optic disc pit (ODP) is a rare congenital anomaly of the optic disc, which can be complicated by a maculopathy associated with progressive visual loss.Optic disc pit maculopathy (ODP-M) is characterized by intraretinal and subretinal fluid at the macula, causing visual deterioration. We illustrate a surgical technique of ILM peel and inverting the flap of ILM to bridge the pit. The postoperative recovery is encouraging by this new technique.

Results:

A good resolution of fluid and visual recovery is observed in post operative phase and follow up.

Conclusions:

This technique needs to be explored and also further tried in a series of this rare disease as a treatment entity.
