Surgically induced astigmatism after 25 gauge pars plana vitrectomy

Purpose:

To evaluate surgically induced astigmatism after 25G pars plana vitrectomy.

Setting:

A’ Ophthalmology Department, University of Athens

Methods:

23 patients underwent 25G pars plana vitrectomy using standard technique. All patients measured preoperative and postoperatively at 3 months with corneal topography.

Results:

Surgically induced astigmatism at 3 month was 0.22±0.47D.

Conclusions:

25G pars plana vitrectomy induces low astigmatism and this is important knowledge for every vitreoretinal surgeon.
