Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report an acute unilateral maculopathy induced by nightclub laser in a young healthy women

Setting:

Clinique Saint-Pierre, Ottignies.

Methods:

A 21–year-old healthy women presented an acute unilateral maculopathy after ocular nightclub laser injury. The follow-up during five months included full ophtalmological work up with visual field and macular SD-OCT.

Results:

Next morning after ocular nightclub laser injury in right eye (RE), patient presented a small grey central scotoma in RE. BCVA was 8/10 RE and 10/10 LE (Snellen chart). Anterior biomicroscopy was normal in both eyes. Visual field (Humphrey sita standard 10.2) was normal in both eyes. Macular SD-OCT was modified by a vertical linear hyperreflectif band through the central fovea in RE, and was strictly normal in LE. Fundus showed a small yellow lesion in the central fovea in RE. Fundus in LE was strictly normal. At 1 month and 5 months follow-up, in RE, scotoma remained stable. BCVA was 10/10. Macular SD-OCT returned to normal. Fundus showed a small pigmented scar in the central fovea.

Conclusions:

This clinical case presents an acute unilateral maculopathy induced by nightclub laser in a young healthy women. Macular SD-OCT shows characteristic vertical linear hypereflectif band through the central fovea. Despit macular SD-OCT returns to normal after 1 month, scotoma remains the same. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for this case.
