Retina function evaluated by electroretinogram in pathological myopia

Purpose:

To describe the electrophysiological alterations in pathological myopia according to axial length and refractive error

Setting:

Hospital de la luz, Mexico City

Methods:

A prospective, cross-sectional, comparative and observational study in patients with pathological myopia that meet the inclusion criteria. Complete eye examination, refraction, axial length by IOL master, ERG and curve dark adaptation was performed. All results were correlated with axial length and spherical equivalent. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 21 used ANOVA test (<0.05) and Pearson correlation.

Results:

There was significant reduction in ERG amplitude response correlated with axial length and refractive error. The curve dark adaptation showed no significant difference. There was no significant correlation with clinical and funduscopic data.

Conclusions:

The ERG is altered in amplitude but not in morphology correlated with axial length and refractive error. The curve dark adaptation does not justify the nictalopia.
