Chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) has remained a challenge to retina specialists due to unsatisfactory functional and anatomical outcomes after have been treated with classic procedures such as laser photocoagulation or photodynamic therapy.
Hospital Universitario de Fuenlabrada
In this report, we present 4 cases of chronic CSC, succesfully treated with 50 mg of daily oral eplerenone. The treatment lasted between 3 and 6 months.
In all cases, there was an anatomical resolution. Visual acuity (VA) improved in 2 of 4 cases. When VA remained the same despite anatomical improvement in other 2 cases. We consider that chronic damage of outer retinal layers may have played a role in latter 2 cases.
In this short consecutive case series, we remark the safety and efficacy of oral eplerenone as a treatment for chronic CSC.
