To describe the results of Micropulse Laser Therapy (MPLT 532nm) in macular edema associated with idiopathic yuxtafoveal teleangiectasia.
Henares University Hospital. Francisco de Vitoria University. Madrid, Spain
Descriptive retrospective case series
We report the response of 5 cases of macular edema secondary to yuxtafoveal idiopathic teleangiectasia (4 cases with unilateral Mactel type 1, and one case of bilateral Mactel-type 2) to MPLT, as first line therapy (2 eyes), and as adyuvant therapy combined with intravitreal anti-VEGF (aflibercept/bevacizumab) in 4 eyes. Anatomic-OCT evolution and functional (ETDRS visual acuity) results were evaluated during a mean follow-up time of 12 months. Two eyes required one session of MPLT, 2 eyes needed one session and one eye three laser sessions. Both functional and anatomic outcomes showed a very variable response to the therapy with a transitory and partial improvement.
Macular edema secondary to juxtafoveal teleangiectasia can only be partially and temporarily relieved with current treatments including MLPT.
