Concert Pianist
João Bettencourt da Câmara was born in Lisbon in 1988. After studying piano with his father from the age of three, he was admitted to the Lisbon National Conservatory, from where he graduated in 2006 with the highest possible grade. He continues his studies at the Royal College of Music in London with Ruth Nye, a former pupil of Claudio Arrau and one of the world’s foremost piano teachers.
He gave his first recital at the age of seven and since then has performed on numerous occasions as recitalist and as soloist with several professional orchestras. Since the age of ten, João has worked with world-renowned pianists, such as Vladimir Viardo, Helena de Sá e Costa, Tânia Achot, Pedro Burmester, Sequeira Costa, Artur Pizarro, Dmitri Bashkirov and Aldo Ciccolini. João completed his first international tour to the USA in 2007 and received critical acclaim for the technique and emotional depth of his playing.
We are delighted to welcome him to perform during the Opening Ceremony in Nice and look forward to what promises to be a true musical highlight.
