INTRAVITREAL APPLICATION OF DRUGS

During this course participants will be given an introduction about the pre-operative preparation of the patient, the proper draping, cleaning and dosaging technique and post-operative care.

VITRECTOMY
There are four levels of vitrectomy surgical skills courses on offer:

Vitrectomy - Level one (Beginner)
Course Instructor: I. Krebs AUSTRIA

Participants should have knowledge of cataract surgery and some experience in assisting vitrectomy. It is not necessary to have performed a p.p. vitrectomy before.

This course will cover the following:
Instrumentation needed for vitrectomy
Basic technique
Current indications for vitreous surgery
Basic vitrectomy training performed with the help of Triamcinolone as “dye”.

Vitrectomy - Level 2 (Intermediate)
Course Instructor: K. Krepler AUSTRIA

Participants taking this course should have some experience in vitreous surgery.
This course will cover the following:
Management of complications that occur during vitrectomy
The dropped IO – lens or nucleus
Tamponades – how to use them
Complete vitrectomy with indentation, fluid-air exchange principles

Vitrectomy - Level 3 (Advanced)
Course Instructor: U. Stolba AUSTRIA

It is important for participants taking this course to have experience with easy vitrectomies.

This course will cover the following:
Strategies for diabetic vitreous surgery
Strategies for PVR – retinal detachment and trauma
Vitrectomy of vitreous hemm with an intraocular foreign body

Vitrectomy - Level 4 (Sophisticated)
Small incision sutureless macular surgery

It is necessary for participants to have experience with using a 20-gauge vitrectomy system.

This course will cover:
23-25 gauge vitrectomy, the techniques, advantages and disadvantages
Dyes for vitrectomy / principles of macular surgery
Small incision training will take place (Computer used for membrane peeling)
