The study of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide for treatment of retinal detachment with choroidal detachment
Purpose: To discuss the effects and safty of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide for treatment of retinal detachment with choroidal detachment. Methods: Choose the patients of retinal detachment with choroidal detachment who have not effective treatment and intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide 0.1ml (4mg) before the operation and its effect on uvitis and choroidal detachment was recorded. The retinal reattachment surgery was done five to ten days following the injection. Results: 22 eyes have alleviated in uvitis and choroidal detachment of different degrees and retinal holes were discovered from 7/22 pre-injection to 16/22 post-operation and choroidal detachment almost reattached completely within 10 days. 5 eyes were operated with scleral buckling,15 eyes with vitrectomy, 2 patients abandoned surgery. The average follow up was 5.25 months, finally 18 eyes have reattached successfully and no side effects were detected. Conclusions: Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide is rapid, effective and safe to treat choroidal detachment and alleviate uvitis, it can simplify surgery fashion and improve the success rate of retinal detachment.
