Indocyanine green angiography features in malignant hypertension
PURPOSE: To analyze indocyanine green angiographic (ICGA) findings in malignant hypertension (MHTA). SETTING: Retrospective and prospective observational, interventional case series. METHODS: 6 patients with MHTA documented with concomitant fluorescein and indocyanine green angiogram, performed with HRA angiograph. Indocyanine green angiographic findings were correlated with funduscopy and fluorescein angiography. RESULTS: In patient with hypertension retinopathy, the main features observed in all 4 patients were modifications of choroidal circulation with acute multifocal choroidal ischemia and dilatation of choroidal veines. In two patients with normal fundus, ICG showed acute multifocal choroidal ischemia. CONCLUSIONS: ICG was especially useful to observe choroidal vascular involvement in MHTA. It may contribute to identification of a new classification of ocular involvement in systemic hypertension with including others features of hypertensive choroidopathy.
